In the Nick of Time: Embracing Earth Hour 2024

Almost every philosopher in the history of humankind has said something inspirational and thought-provoking about time. Depending on who you ask, time could be “the devourer of all things” (Ovid), “the wisest counsellor of all” (Pericles) or “the most valuable thing a man can spend” (Theophrastus). Kitted out in their fancy white togas, there’s no way these oldy-worldy chaps could pin down a single definition!

The one thing they can all agree on, however, is the power of the hour. To them, to us today and to our beautiful planet, time is precious.

For almost 20 years, we have been celebrating Earth Hour – an annual event in which we take one hour to switch off and give back to Mother Nature. What began as a “lights off” moment to show solidarity with our planet has transformed into a worldwide mission to stop the 1.5°C temperature increase limit set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. Today, Earth Hour represents how small changes can make a big difference.

This year, Sustainable Mode is celebrating Earth Hour the only way we know how… in true sustainable style. We are more committed than ever to bringing our customers ethical, eco-friendly products that stand the test of time. Check out our top tips for how you and your loved ones can celebrate Earth Hour in 2024:

Sustainable Show Stopper

Whether you watch an award-winning Attenborough series or a YouTube video about penguin chicks in Antarctica, increasing your awareness of the natural world through nature documentaries can be a fantastic way to celebrate Mother Nature for Earth Hour. To make it extra special, why not treat yourself to a mini eco-friendly skincare sesh while you’re watching?

Stop and Smell the Roses

Leave the hustle and bustle of daily life by the wayside and reconnect with planet Earth the good old-fashioned way – with an immersive nature hike. Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle (psst… our one has a built-in infuser)!

Light Bulb Moment

Enjoy an old-school Earth Hour celebration and turn your lights off on 23rd March from 20:30-21:30. Create the perfect cosy atmosphere with a luxurious scented candle, a glass of wine and an hour of stargazing with your loved ones. What could be more relaxing?

If you’re still not sure whether Earth Hour is for you, here’s one simple question: we all have 168 hours in our week, can you spare just one for our planet?
